Mon Cham

Facts at a glance

Distance: 75 kilometres

Elevation Gain: 1,329 metres

Terrain: Hilly, some steep gradients.

Type: Lollipop

Road surface: Moderate

Traffic: Moderate. The steep descent can be quite busy.

When: Mondays, 08:00 from the Convention Centre.

Once the preserve of super strong climbers, there seem to be a few mere mortals joining this ride recently. In any event, it’s a tough climb best tackled at your own pace.

Be careful on the descent. It is very steep in places and there can sometimes be quite a lot of traffic. Watch out for the dogs on the ascent.

These photos are from when I did the ride in the harder, clockwise direction  with SoiTan. The regular Monday group do not go all the way to the gardens and nearly always go counter-clockwise but occasionally go the harder way in January when they are preparing for the annual race up Doi Inthanon.
